At last November's ASOR meeting in San Diego, Dr. Beth Alpert Nakhai presented a paper, "Keeping Fieldwork Safe from Sexual Harassment and Physical Violence." She recently read it for ASOR's YouTube channel, & several bullets on her slides shocked me:
At 9:30, "Perpetrator was dig director ... Reported to dig directors, who did nothing." "After the dig, reported to university, which took no action."
At 9:36, "Faculty perpetrator asked his students to advocate on his behalf."
Honor codes ain't all they're cracked up to be.
